On the 25th of November 2011 a meeting took place in Tehnopol that celebrated the contract signing of buying FMS equipment (Flexible Manufacturing System) fot Tehnopol´s new Center of Mechatronics. The manufacturer and supplier of the equipment is Fastems OY AB.
The overall cost of the equipment is approximately 2 million euros and it will create the conditions for high-tech companies to create full-scale prototypes. The new equipment allows companies in Estonia to produce electric and mechanical devices from the scratch, which was not possible before.
The FMS equipment is managed through a hierarchical control system for 24 hours without direct human intervention. This will challenge the Estonian software development industry and universities to adopt with new producing capabilities.
„Operating the Center of Mechatronics will require good collaboration between businesses and universities. This will give practical value and experience for our engineers, also develop new innovative products of companies" said the board member of the Mechatronic Innovation Centre, Mr. Jüri Riives.
Jüri Riives, Heikki Hallila (Fastems OY) and Mart Repnau (Tallinn City Enterprise Board) made speeches at the meeting and contract signing event. The representatives from Tallinn University of Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications were present at the event.
FMS equipment purchase is co-financed by the INNOREG project Interreg IVA.
