Tallinn’s Viru Street Equipped with SmartEli Street Lighting System

10.02.2017

Viru street is the entrance to the famous Tallinn Old Town and one of the most active tourist routes in the city. The street has now gone through a transformation and has been equipped with Eliko's smart street lighting system SmartELI.

Tallinn Old Town is one of the most uniquely preserved Northern European medieval city centers that is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. That is why refurbishing the street lighting system on Viru street was both a challenge and a privilege for Eliko.

Each lamp in Viru street is equipped with a controller that enables to dynamically change street light intensity and quickly detect any problems with street lighting. Eliko’s smart street lighting system uses open IP-based wireless communication, which enables to seamlessly integrate additional sensors to the street. The additional data can be used to help visitors navigate and enjoy the Old Town, by building interactive tourist attractions based on location detection.

Tehnopol's client Eliko is continuing cooperation with the city of Tallinn and Elektrilevi, Estonia’s largest electricity system operator, to bring a new generation of street lighting systems to the citizens of Tallinn.
