On that day, the declaration of independence entitled the \u201cManifesto to the people of\u00a0Estonia\u201d was released by the Council of Elders of the Estonian National Council. Here is its first article: \u201cAll citizens of the Republic of Estonia, irrespective of their religion, ethnic origin, and political views, are going to enjoy equal protection under the law and courts of justice of the Republic.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Foundation of the Institute of Cybernetics<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Estonians\u2019 skills in large-scale\u00a0automation projects, science, information security, and cryptography have old roots. These capabilities found some ground to grow and improve thanks to the establishment of the\u00a0<strong>Institute of Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of Estonia in 1960<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>The way to freedom<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>On 23 August 1989, approximately\u00a0<strong>2 million people from the Baltics<\/strong>\u00a0joined their hands to form a human chain of 675 kilometers, connecting the way between the three Baltic capitals Vilnius, Riga, and Tallinn. This symbolic demonstration, together with the so-called \u201c<strong>Singing revolution<\/strong>\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>The new digital identity<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Estonia wouldn\u2019t be recognized worldwide as a pathfinder in the development of e-services if it wasn\u2019t for the introduction of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/e-estonia.com\/solutions\/e-identity\/\"><strong>digital identity for all<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0its 1.3 million citizens.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>The first peer-to-peer online calls software<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Of course we are atalking about <strong>Skype, which main office is sitauted actually in Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol. <\/strong>Skype\u00a0users contributed to the growth of the international call market share from 2,9 percent in 2005 to 40 percent in 2014.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong>One click to vote<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In 2005 Estonia became the first nation in the world to provide an internet voting service for the general elections. Since then, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/e-estonia.com\/solutions\/e-governance\/i-voting\/\"><strong>i-voting system<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0allows all voters to express their preference directly from their own laptop without the need to go to any\u00a0polling station, either electronic or traditional.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><strong>From underdogs to pathfinders<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Toomas Hendrik Ilves<\/strong>, the fourth Estonian President from 2006 until 2016, impersonates the connection between the Estonian past and its future.\u00a0He has been promoting Estonia\u2019s IT development since the country restored its independence<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><strong>Another brick in the security wall<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0After series cyber attacks in 2007 and 2008, the direct reaction was the creation of the NATO Cooperative Cyber Centre of Excellence in Tallinn, while the Estonian Government has been the first to test the application of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/e-estonia.com\/solutions\/security-and-safety\/ksi-blockchain\/\"><strong>KSI Blockchain<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>technology to guarantee the integrity and the safety of Estonia\u2019s data registers and the citizens\u2019 digital records.\u00a0Instead of 7 months, blockchain helps to detect data misuse immediately.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li><strong>The first worldwide borderless business community<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The e-Estonia environment got one of its last updates in 2014.
