LIFT99 wrote in their blog<\/a> about investments into Estonian startups. They are thrilled to announce that 2018 is going to be a record year for Estonian startups! Tehnopol is happy to say that there are some startups from our campus as well!<\/strong><\/p>\n

6 months in, we\u2019re just \u20ac30 M short of swooshing by last year\u2019s results.\u00a0Here\u2019s a handy chart based on\u00a0#EstonianMafia\u2019s crowdsourced<\/a>\u00a0data. It shows the last 9 years of investments into Estonian Startups, to date (June 14, 2018):<\/p>\n

You might be wondering who are the big players in this field?<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the current standing,\u00a0Transferwise<\/a>\u00a0is in the lead with \u20ac335,600,000 raised over the years. They are followed by\u00a0Taxify<\/a>\u00a0with \u20ac151,970,000 and a fresh position in the Unicorn club because of\u00a0Taxify\u2019s latest investment round<\/a>\u00a0in May 2018.<\/p>\n

The third place, however, is where things get interesting. In June 2018,\u00a0Pipedrive<\/a>\u00a0left behind\u00a0Skeleton Technologies<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Starship Technologies<\/a>,\u00a0with their investment round of \u20ac50M. Last two startups are partners with Tehnopol. This investment adds up to \u20ac77,131,000 on Pipedrive\u2019s account.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What\u2019s still to come in 2018?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Allan Martinson<\/a>, Estonian startup entrepreneur & investor predicts that by the end of the year Estonia will be \u201cin Top 3 of the world\u2019s leading tech countries alongside the United States and Israel, based on the venture funding per capita\u201d.<\/p>\n

We know that many startups are still preparing their rounds. Martinson estimates that 2018 will close with \u20ac350 M raised by Estonian startups.\u00a0That means \u20ac270 or $314 per each of Estonia\u2019s 1.3 million inhabitants. \u201cIn 2017, average venture funding in Europe was $30 per capita, or 10 times less. The UK had $120, Sweden $136, United States $250, and Israel \u2013 the world leader \u2013 $368 per capita,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

This is a whole new chapter for Estonian startup scene, and Estonia in general.\u00a0<\/p>\n
