Time is running out to submit an application for the Smart City Solutions Competition, which has a prize fund of 50,000 euros.

There are only a few days left until the deadline for the Tallinnovation Smart City Solutions Competition. The City of Tallinn, together with Tehnopol Science and Business Park, await competition applications that will make the city’s services and environment more comfortable and modern for residents and visitors alike.

The best proposals submitted to the Tallinnovation competition can present their solutions to a commission consisting of smart city experts from both the City of Tallinn and Tehnopol. Three solutions can receive the maximum amount of support, yet ideas that require in-kind contributions, such as trialing e-solutions, data collection, and the like are also welcome. In addition, competition winners will receive city contacts, advice, and support from Tehnopol’s mentor network. The size of the innovation fund for 2020 is 50,000 euros.

Aivar Riisalu, the deputy mayor of Tallinn, said the aim of the Tallinnovation competition is to bring modern solutions to the cityscape that develop the city and make it smarter, more people-friendly, more economical, and more open. “We want to enliven the cooperation between the city and technology companies by opening the door to innovative products and services that make the lives of city residents and visitors more comfortable,” Riisalu said.

The competition awaits smart city ideas that offer viable alternatives to existing solutions or that bring a completely new approach to the following focus areas: tourism, circular economy, community areas, e-services, and Tallinn-Helsinki cooperation.

Martin Goroško, the business development manager for Tehnopol Science and Business Park, said that Tehnopol has supported companies offering smart city solutions for many years with incubation, business development advice, and a test environment. “Our ultimate goal is to make our living environment and everyday services smarter, more comfortable, and more sustainable. To do this, we need companies that offer inventive solutions, practical advice that supports their growth, financial support, and a test environment,” he added. Goroško noted that the Tallinnovation competition is an ideal opportunity to quickly implement solutions, make improvements based on feedback, and bring them to world markets.

Smart city solutions can be submitted until 24 August 2020. You can read more about the competition and apply on the following website: innovatsioonifond.tehnopol.ee
